1)   What the A grade answer does that I haven't done:
  • Showed confidence in answers by back his points with evidence.
  • Strong developed sentences which earned him more credits.
  • Almost all candidates focused on the question to which they outlined the debates and issues about new and digital media
  • Debates about a digital underclass of people who are excluded from the developments in new and digital media
2) Read the Examiners' Report for this exam as outlined above and write three bullet points that summarise the key comments that apply to your essay.

Candidates with a very wide ranging case study tended to just include descriptive lists of developments in new and digital media, rather than focusing on the question.

  • FOCUS ON THE QUESTION RATHER THAN CONTINUE DEVELOPING THE SENTENCES

Higher level answers evaluated the extent of empowerment and also discussed some of the downsides for audiences and the ways in which audiences had not been empowered.

  • TALK ABOUT THE EMPOWERMENT OF INSTITUTIONS AND AUDIENCES CONSTANTLY

Also debates about a digital underclass of people excluded from the developments in new and digital media.

  • TALK ABOUT THE CLASSES OF THE SOCIAL HIERARCHY, PSYCHOGRAPHICS

3) Type up your feedback in full (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential)

  • A lack of question focus will kill you in MEST3 section B. You barely use the words views/value/empowered/audience.
  • Make sure your plan focuses on the question.
  • You need theories, statistics and detailed examples.
  • Focus carefully on the question.
Developments in new and digital media allow audiences to easily learn, interact and communicate on a grand scale across the world. According to Briggs and Burkes, the internet is the "most important medium of the 21st century". Having new technologies in schools can contribute to increase in productivity and academic ability. This shows how developments in new/digital media can ultimately empower audiences as it can educate them through many resources of information. In addition, audiences are also empowered through the use of social networking, groups and pages. The internet provides a sense of global unity, allowing audiences to share their views and values across massive platforms which can get to many people across the world; leading to many protest pages, fan pages or even petitions against global events. crowd-sourcing on the internet has enabled people to come together to solve problems by pooling their resources and skills. Audiences are also becoming much more active as consumers, allowing a major way for corporations to build relationships between their audiences and media products. With the increase use of media convergence, audiences aren't restricted to exploring along one platform, audiences can connect their phones to other devices and interact between the two devices, giving them ease of access of passing on information and receiving information.
